Dental school is VERY expensive, probably the most expensive graduate schooling due to the hands on nature of the education and expensive disposable supplies. The prices have gotten so outrageous that many schools have started to change the formatting on their websites to highlight subsections of their cost of attendance.Below are all of the California dental school estimated totals (what I am most familiar with). California is slightly more expensive, but unless you happen to be a Texas resident or a resident of a few south eastern states you are looking at +- 20-40k relative to California. To me, 400K for a private school is great IF the OP was factoring in living expenses. Public schools aren’t far behind on paper, but they do provide grant money (based on parents finances, even if they are no longer in the picture) that can cover up to ~20K a year. San Francisco’s high cost of living can be an advantage as the threshold to receive grant money is much lower than elsewhere. Students of families with 6 figure incomes are still eligible for a decent chunk of grant money. There IS room to penny pinch when it comes to living expenses and securing good interest rates. I originally set myself a target cost of 320K and it is looking like I will be ending dental school with ~240K (with accrued interest)UCSF (Public): 372k – https://finaid.ucsf.edu/application-process/student-budgetUCLA (Public): 328k – https://www.dentistry.ucla.edu/learning/projected-costs-0USC (Private): 479k – http://dentistry.usc.edu/programs/dds/cost-of-attendance/UoP (Private): 460k – http://www.dental.pacific.edu/academic-programs/doctor-of-dental-surgery/tuition-and-fees/estimating-your-attendance-costsWestern University (Private): 434k – http://www.westernu.edu/financial/financial-budgets/financial-budgets-dentistry/Loma Linda University (Private): 434k – https://dentistry.llu.edu/sites/dentistry.llu.edu/files/docs/incoming-info/budget-dds.pdfOp, message me if you want to talk more.
